Chinoiserie Cocktail Cabinet on Stand C.1930

1920 - 1940
Description

Superb quality cocktail cabinet in the style of a George I chinoiserie cabinet on stand, c.1930. Two door cabinet opening to reveal a mirror glass lined interior with a single glass shelf (internal depth 16") and drawer in base with a glass slide to make a table surface for preparing drinks. Beautiful chinoiserie decorated exterior front and sides featuring a scene of multiple figures amongst traditional pagodas and bridges built across and landscape of islands in raised lacquerwork and gold paint against a black 'japanned' ground. With large original decorative pierced and tooled brass hinges and and escutcheon plates. The decoration continues on the inner face of the doors with scenes of birds amongst blossoming tree branches, plus another oriental scene to the drawer front. Raised on a separate giltwood stand carved with a grotesque head to the centre of the apron, flanked with scrolling acanthus and with bats to the corners above the legs. Shaped legs with further carved detail, joined with a crossed stretcher. Some crackling to the black ground on the door fronts and minor tarnish to the mirror glass inside. Otherwise very good condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
