English Cut Glass Vanity Jar - Tortoise Shell & Sterling Silver - 1922

Description

A most attractive small vanity jar, a wonderful display piece and as pretty as they come.

The crystal is deep cut in the ever-popular hobnail design with a star cut base.

The lid is made from sterling silver with a hallmark for Birmingham 1922, together with the makers initials, S.M.L., for the silversmith, Samuel M. Levi.

The top is inset with a wonderful piece of antique tortoiseshell with decorative markings and colours ranging from golden champagne to deep chocolate brown. The shell is inlaid with intricate silver pique inlay with engraved floral and foliate swags around a central heart shaped motif, extremely pretty, with a good glossy patina.

Excellent condition, measuring 2 1/8" tall with a lid diameter measuring 2 1/4".
