Barograph Railway and Southend Interest 1920

Description

I have for sale an early 20th-century barograph housed in a dark oak case with glazed panels and a fitted drawer to the base. The instrument features a finely engineered brass mechanism driven by a stacked aneroid capsule assembly, transferring atmospheric pressure changes through an articulated linkage to a recording arm. This arm traces continuous readings onto a rotating paper drum calibrated by day and hour, enabling precise long-term barometric observation.

 The barograph was made by Charles Waller of Southend-On-Sea.

Set on a stepped oak plinth, the barograph retains its original removable glass cover, brass fittings, recording drum, and ink reservoir.

This barograph sat all its life in the signal box on Southend Pier, and when the operator retired, he was given the barograph as a wedding present, as explained on the brass plaque on the front of the instrument.
