Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George II mahogany chest of drawers dating from around 1727 to 1760 typically features solid or veneered mahogany construction, graduated drawers, and a pull-out wooden surface known as a brushing slide used for folding, brushing, or preparing clothes.

Mid-18th-century chests were predominantly crafted from imported dense mahogany, often using secondary timbers such as oak or pine for drawer linings and internal framing. Hardware was typically hand-cast from brass, including pierced backplates and swan-neck handles.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-sawn drawer bottoms, and signs of natural timber shrinkage over time. Original brasses will often leave ghosting marks on the timber, and drawer runners will show uneven wear consistent with age.

A Georgian mahogany chest serves as a functional focal point in an entryway, bedroom, or living room, anchoring the space when contrasted against neutral walls, contemporary artwork, or modern lighting fixtures.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a thin coat of natural beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and finish deterioration.
