19th century
Description

A Very Attractive And Good Quality 19th Century Oriental Hardwood Rectangular Low Coffee Table, Having Well Figured Panelled Top Over Elegant Carved & Pierced Frieze, Raised On Stiff Turned Cabriole Legs.

An Attractive 19th Century Coffee Table which is fairly typical of the items which were being produced in China specifically for the western market from early in the 19th century and beyond. These items are commonly referred to as having been made for the Chinese Export market.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These tables feature low-profile proportions designed for raised seating platforms, constructed using mortise-and-tenon joinery, floating inset top panels, and carved aprons inspired by natural forms like bamboo.

Craftspeople traditionally constructed these pieces from dense tropical hardwoods like zitan, huali, or rosewood, relying on precision wood joints without metal nails or glue.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved details, smooth unrefined underside joinery, floating panels that accommodate timber movement, and natural patination across high-wear areas.

Position the table as a central coffee table in a living room, contrasting its dark timber and carved apron details against tailored, light-coloured upholstered seating.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and extreme humidity changes, dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying clear beeswax periodically.
