ANTIQUE #SA1205135

East Anatolian Kurdish Rug

£340    $455    €398
These Kurdish rugs from eastern Turkey announce themselves with their distinctive palette which I find refreshingly light and pleasing. The tone of the red is soft, the orange borders create a bright and colourful frame for the central field. Note how the top medallion is compressed as the weaver realised they were running out of warps. These are interesting rugs I think, there aren’t too many around as they tend to buckle and wear on the creases with their soft woollen foundation. I will always buy them when I see them as they are so different to other oriental rugs, the pile is long and silky and the weave as floppy as a blanket. I think this is a very attractive example.

The condition is quite poor, there is a lot of old repair some of which is more darning than repiling. It has some wrinkles as is to be expected on these pieces. The price is markedly reduced to reflect the condition.
