Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, books were often published with uncut signatures, requiring a dedicated page turner to separate pages cleanly without damaging the paper. Letter openers served a complementary desktop purpose for unsealing correspondence without tearing envelopes.

High-end desk accessories were traditionally crafted from sterling silver, silver plate, mother-of-pearl, tortoiseshell, or carved hardwood. Solid silver versions often featured cast decorative handles or sculpted animal finials.

Authentic silver accessories display stamped hallmark symbols indicating the silver purity, city assay office, year of manufacture, and makers mark. Genuine antique silver pieces also exhibit minor surface wear and natural patination within recessed relief details.

Place the item on a leather desk blotter, beside a inkwell, or resting atop a stack of hardcover books on an office desk or bookshelf. It functions as both a practical stationery tool and a textured decorative object in a study.

Gently buff the surface with a soft microfibre polishing cloth formulated for silver to remove surface tarnish. Avoid aggressive chemical dips or abrasive polishes that can strip intented natural oxidisation from sculpted details.
