A fine pen and ink figural study on paper, attributed to Alfred Dehodencq 1822-1882, a preparatory study circa 1850s.
Dehodencq was an influential French Romanticism and orientalist painter, often influenced by Delacroix, which is visible in this preparatory work, possibly in preparation for a painting such as Execution of Jewess in Morocco etc.., often his works represented story telling of Morocco featuring assembled crowds, which this work implies.
The picture is mounted behind a silk mounting board and framed, behind glass with an inscription to the reverse. The picture appears in good condition without much fading or distress to the paper, please note a small loss at the top right corner.
