Description

Imari porcelain jar, Arita, Japan, c. 1700, Genroku Period. The body hand painted in Imari colours, with a shaped panel containing a scene of a pavilion, beneath a tree on an island. The reverse with a flowering prunus tree, within a quatrelobed panel. All on a dense ground of flowering plants.

The shoulder with a band of karashishi, amongst further flowering plants.

Height – 26.5 cm, 10 3/8”.

Diameter – 22 cm, 8 5/8”.

Condition – Typical minor age related wear to the glaze. No damage. No restoration.
