Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Windsor chair is a solid wooden seating design featuring turned legs and back spindles anchored directly into a shaped solid wooden seat slab. Originating in England during the early eighteenth century, these vernacular country chairs became standard domestic seating throughout the nineteenth century.

Traditional British Windsor chairs feature solid timber construction using species such as elm for the saddle seat, alongside oak, ash, or beech for the turned legs, stretchers, and back spindles. The components are joined using wedged mortise and tenon joints without relying on heavy adhesives.

Authentic pieces display hand-turned legs, irregular spindle profiles, wedged tenons visible on the underside or seat surface, and natural wear patterns on the front stretcher and seat edges. Original patination and timber shrinkage over time often create subtle asymmetries indicative of period construction.

These chairs offer textural warmth in modern spaces when paired with clean-lined timber or metal dining tables in a kitchen or breakfast nook. They also function well individually or as accent seating in hallways, bedrooms, or study corners.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice annually along the grain. Avoid placement near direct heat sources or in damp environments to prevent joint movement, timber shrinkage, or splitting.
