Canonbury Antiques has dated this Carved Oak Hall Settle to the 1800s.
Great for that farmhouse look, these are work really well in a hallway with all the storage room

Bought from a private house sale in Suffolk
The tall back is formed of three panels, the central panel carved in relief with a dramatic historical scene depicting two figures in medieval dress, flanked by panels carved with classical profile busts framed by foliate ornament

The deep seat lifts to reveal generous internal storage, a traditional feature of monks benches designed for use in entrance halls and country houses
The bench is executed in dark oak with a wonderful aged patina, the carving displaying strong Renaissance Revival influence typical of continental furniture of the late nineteenth century

A striking architectural piece that would make a superb statement in a hallway, library, or country house interior
