Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bentwood furniture was pioneered in the nineteenth century by Michael Thonet, who perfected a method of steaming solid wood rods to bend them into curvilinear shapes. By the turn of the century, these lightweight yet sturdy settees became widely produced across Central Europe.

These items were predominantly constructed using beechwood, which responds well to steam-bending. The seats and back panels frequently used thin plywood, often stamped or pyrographed with relief motifs.

Authentic pieces typically feature a paper manufacturer label or a impressed brand stamp on the underside of the seat frame. Construction relies on exposed metal screws and bentwood structural brace supports rather than traditional mortise and tenon joinery.

A bentwood settee serves well in narrow spaces such as entryways or hallways due to its slim profile. It can also be paired with a modern dining table or placed at the foot of a bed to add architectural contrast.

Dust the timber regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to feed the wood. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and high moisture levels to prevent the steam-bent wood and layered plywood from warping.
