Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A monks bench, also known as a hutch table or chair table, is a piece of dual-function furniture featuring a tabletop that flips on pivots to convert between a high-backed armchair and a tabletop surface.

Historically, these items were built using native hardwoods, primarily solid English oak. Construction techniques relied on hand-planed timber, mortise and tenon joinery, and wooden pegs rather than metal fasteners.

Authentic period examples exhibit irregular hand-sawn timber marks, peg joinery, uneven wear around the armrests and feet, natural shrinkage across wider boards, and an aged dark patina within the oak grain.

Position the piece in a spacious hallway, entryway, or dining area where its dual capability can be utilised. Pair it with neutral stone flooring or contemporary textiles to balance the visual weight of dark historical oak.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent warping or splitting. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the wood moisture and protect the historical finish.
