Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, pine kitchen tables were foundational utilitarian pieces in country homes and domestic quarters. Often painted to protect the softwood or match interior joinery, these functional tables typically featured sturdy tapered or turned legs and integrated side drawers for cutlery storage.

They were predominantly constructed using native softwoods like pine, joined with traditional mortise and tenon joints for long-term stability. Table tops were frequently built from thick timber planks, whilst the bases received coats of oil-based or milk paint and were fitted with iron or brass hardware.

Authentic original paint displays uneven wear patterns concentrated around high-touch areas such as the table legs, apron, and drawer fronts. Genuine period pieces show natural oxidisation of the underlying timber, layered historic paint beneath chips, and original hand-forged or cast iron fixings.

A painted antique pine table serves as a textured focal point when paired with modern seating, such as mid-century chairs or minimalist benches. Its weathered finish complements neutral colour schemes, bridging classic rural design with clean, contemporary architecture.

To preserve historic paintwork, surfaces should be cleaned gently using a soft, slightly damp cloth without harsh chemical detergents or abrasive pads. Applying a clear, natural beeswax paste annually nourishes exposed timber and seals remaining painted surfaces against dust and moisture.
