A good original example of a French gilt bronze and porcelain mounted mantel clock, dating from the late 19th century, circa 1870.
The case is finely cast in gilt bronze in the Louis XV revival taste, with scrolling foliate mounts and an urn surmount with twin bird handles. The porcelain dial and panels are decorated with delicate pink floral and cherub subjects, retaining good colour and detail. The movement is stamped for Japy Frčres & Cie and is a standard French two-train bell striking movement.
The case retains its original gilded finish with light, even wear to the high points, consistent with age. The clock is presented on a giltwood stand with later fabric covering and remains a well-balanced and decorative example
Condition Report:
• Movement in working order and striking
• Pendulum and key present
• Gilding with expected age-related wear
• Porcelain panels appear free from damage (no obvious cracks noted)
• Stand with later fabric covering.
