Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian serving slices were specialised table implements designed for serving fish, cakes, pastries, or delicate baked dishes without disrupting their structure. Emerging during the 19th century alongside formal dining etiquette, these slices often featured pierced patterns to allow fluids or crumbs to pass through.

These items were typically constructed from electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) or copper base metals, coated with a thin layer of fine silver via electroplating. Handles and blades were often formed separately and soldered together, featuring hand-engraved or die-stamped decoration.

Authentic pieces usually bear manufacturer makers marks or EPNS stamps near the handle join or back of the blade. Look for period-appropriate construction detail, such as subtle hand-engravings, hand-pierced motifs, and natural wear where base metal might show slightly through the silver plate on raised high points.

In modern interiors, vintage silver serving slices can be displayed flat on a sideboard tray or incorporated into contemporary tablescapes alongside crisp modern linens and stoneware. They add historical contrast to dessert presentation boards, cheese platters, or formal dinner settings.

Clean gently using warm soapy water and a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive pads or harsh chemicals that can strip the silver layer. Periodically apply a specialist silver polish with a soft cotton cloth to remove tarnish, and store in anti-tarnish cloth bags to prevent atmospheric oxidisation.
