Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique silver cigar case is a portable metal container designed in the nineteenth or early twentieth century to carry cigars without crushing them. These items typically feature hinged lids, shaped channels, and often possess gold-washed interiors to prevent metal corrosion from affecting the tobacco.

Edwardian cigar cases were primarily constructed from sterling silver, hallmarked according to regional assay office standards. Interiors were frequently finished with a layer of gold gilding, known as vermeil, to protect both the silver and the cigars stored inside.

Authenticity is confirmed by examining stamped hallmarks, which typically include a makers mark, purity mark, town assay mark, and date letter indicating the exact year of manufacture. Construction features such as precision hand-fitted hinges and smooth gilded interior channels are also indicative of period craftsmanship.

An antique cigar case functions as a sophisticated decorative object when displayed open on an office desk, coffee table tray, or inside a curated glass vitrine. Its metallic sheen and structured form add historic texture to contemporary study spaces or living rooms.

Gently wipe the exterior using a soft microfiber cloth and a specialised silver polish formulated for antiques, taking care around hallmark stamps. Avoid abrasive cleaners on the interior, as harsh scrubbing can wear away the thin layer of gold gilding.
