Antique silver half hunter pocket watch, Arbroath.

The watch has an English ¾ plate stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the name and address of the original retailer, John Anderson, 6 Keptie St, Arbroath. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the three covers for Chester 1896, with a maker’s mark for the Coventry watch maker Isaac Jabez Theo Newsome. The front of the case has a small central lens surrounded by blue enamel filled Roman numerals. The case is in good condition, just the odd small mark but nothing serious at all.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside, there is a glass lens which is in lovely condition.

The dial is signed with the retailer’s name, pin-set blued steel hands including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed. There is a hairline to the dial.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
