Pair of Early Minton Porcelain Figural Candlesticks, Pattern No.192, C.1835–1836

19th century
Description

A rare pair of early Minton porcelain figural candlesticks dating to circa 1835–1836 and corresponding to Minton pattern No.192, illustrated in Geoffrey Godden, Minton Pottery & Porcelain of the First Period 1793–1850, p.104, plate 146.

The figures represent a young flower seller and her companion and are decorated in bright enamels with gilding and finely patterned fabrics. They stand on rococo bases with applied flowers, with candlesticks rising behind them modelled as bundles of reeds and bulrushes.

The modelling shows the lively naturalistic style typical of Minton’s early decorative porcelain. The bright enamels and gilded ornament create a striking decorative effect.

Early Minton figures from this formative period are particularly desirable to collectors of early English porcelain.
