1900 - 1920
For Sale by AC Silver
Description

A stunning, fine and impressive antique 1.60 carat Basaltic sapphire, 18 carat yellow gold and platinum set twist ring; part of our collection of sapphire engagement rings.

This stunning, fine and impressive antique sapphire ring has been crafted in 18ct yellow gold with a platinum setting.

The antique twist ring displays two feature round faceted cut blue Basaltic sapphires, each eight-claw set diagonally on a twist.

The curved ring shoulders integrate into the twist design and blend seamlessly with the plain ring shank.

This Edwardian sapphire ring is hallmarked to the interior with the 18ct gold mark (18CT), and the piece has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18 carat gold and platinum.

This antique twist ring is supplied with an IDGL gemstone grading report grading card*.

This antique 18k gold sapphire twist ring is well suited to both everyday elegance and more formal occasions. Its twist design introduces a sense of movement and individuality, giving the ring character while remaining refined enough to wear alone or alongside simpler bands.

NOTE: * The Gemmological Certification Services (GCS) lab has verbally (report number 5785-3926) accredited the sapphires originating in Basaltic deposits and verifies that the gemstone shows no indications of heating.

Images do not always reflect the true colour and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual colour and showcases each stone.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique sapphire twist ring, often referred to as a crossover or toi et moi ring, features two central gemstones set opposite each other on a curving band. Popularised during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, the design symbolically represents the meeting of two souls.

Rings from the Edwardian period were predominantly crafted using 18ct yellow gold or platinum bands, featuring natural precious gemstones such as sapphires, diamonds, or rubies. Platinum was frequently selected for setting claws to secure the stones while enhancing their colour contrast.

Authentic pieces from around 1910 typically feature hand-cut natural gemstones, fine multi-claw settings, and hallmarks stamped on the inner band indicating gold purity. Crossover bands from this era display fluid, organic curves characteristic of early 20th-century craftsmanship.

A two-stone sapphire ring serves as a refined statement piece that complements both tailored daywear and formal evening attire. It can be worn individually on the right hand or paired with slim gold bands for a curated jewellery stack.

Clean the ring gently using warm water, mild liquid soap, and a soft-bristled brush, paying close attention around the claws and setting. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners or harsh chemical solutions, and store the piece separately in a fabric-lined box to prevent surface scratching.
