Fine quality Georgian mahogany oval pembroke table. Figured drop leaf top over a single drawer fitted with original brass swan neck handle (with dummy drawer to the rear). Raised on square tapered legs terminating in spade feet and brass castors.

A Pembroke table is a compact form of drop-leaf table introduced in the 18th century, named according to tradition after the Countess of Pembroke. It features two hinged flaps that raise to extend the tabletop and typically includes one or two shallow drawers.

Georgian examples were primarily crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or satinwood. Construction involved hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary drawer linings, hinged wooden support brackets (fly-rail mechanisms), and brass hardware including swan-neck handles and castors.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-saw marks on drawer bottoms, hand-cut dovetails, original brass castors secured to square tapered legs, and natural oxidisation on the underside of the timber. The top flap supports should pivot smoothly on traditional wooden hinges.
