Description

A lovely Worcester porcelain sugar bowl and cover, with reeded moulding to the body and lower half of the cover, and topped with a rose bud knop with moulded leaves. Painted in a Continental style with the Immortelle pattern and marked to the base with an open crescent. c.1775.

It measures 9.5cm (3 3/4") high and 10cm (4") wide (the bowl 9cm (3 1/2") wide).

Condition is excellent; the knop has been very well restored. No other damage, repair or restoration or damage and very minor handling wear.

First Period Worcester, often called the Dr Wall period, spans from 1751 to 1783 and is recognised for soft-paste porcelain with underglaze cobalt blue patterns, fine fluting, and chinoiserie or floral motifs.

Eighteenth-century English soft-paste porcelain was produced using soaprock (steatite) combined with clay and frit, resulting in a slightly translucent body fired at lower temperatures than hard-paste porcelain.
