Description

Lovely Worcester porcelain sauceboat with fluted moulding and painted in The Rose pattern, c.1770. 

Marked with an open crescent to the base.

It measures 14.5cm (5 3/4") spout to handle, 8.2cm (3 1/4") wide and 6.3cm (2 5/8") high. 

Condition is excellent with no damage, repair or restoration and minor handling wear, just a little to the glaze on the thumb rest and some light discolouration to the underside of the foot rim as it is unglazed.

First Period Worcester porcelain refers to items produced by the Worcester Tonquin Manufacture between its founding in 1751 and 1783, often associated with founder Dr John Wall. This era is characterised by soapstone soft-paste porcelain, underglaze blue decoration, and fine hand-painted or transfer-printed designs.

Eighteenth-century Worcester porcelain was crafted using a soft-paste body incorporating steatite, or soapstone, sourced from Cornwall.
