Henry Hillingford Parker, Across The Stream, Midgham, Berkshire - Antique Oil Painting

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Brave Fine Art

This late 19th-century oil painting by English artist Henry Hillingford Parker (1858-1930) depicts a quiet rural moment in the Berkshire countryside.

In the foreground, a tranquil stream flows quietly through a meadow, its surface reflecting the warm tones of the surrounding landscape. Two cattle stand in the water, drinking - their reflections softly shimmering in the moving current.

Beside the stream, a young dairy maid holds a small basket, pausing near a simple wooden footbridge. Behind her, a narrow path winds away into the meadow where further cattle graze.

In the middle distance, a cottage sits partially hidden among trees and, beyond this, the landscape dissolves into a soft atmospheric haze.

The painting depicts a view at Midgham in Berkshire, situated within the Kennet Valley. It was likely produced during the 1880s or 1890s. Several elements support this date, including the materials and canvas construction.
