Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian breakfront sideboard is a 19th-century dining room storage cabinet featuring a central section that projects forward beyond the flanking side wings. Developed during the 19th century, these pieces provided surface space for serving dishes and storage for dining accoutrements.

Victorian sideboards were predominantly constructed using solid mahogany, walnut, or oak, often finished with flame mahogany veneers to showcase decorative wood grains. Interiors frequently featured pine or oak drawer linings with brass keyhole escutcheons and locks.

Authentic Victorian examples feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer construction, hand-carved decorative motifs, and natural age-related patination on the timber. Keyholes, original locks, and wood shrinkage consistent with age also indicate genuine 19th-century origin.

Position the sideboard against a feature wall to act as an anchor piece in a dining room, hallway, or living space. Balance the substantial wood proportions by pairing the surface with contemporary ceramics, minimalist table lamps, or a large modern mirror above.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying beeswax polish once or twice a year along the grain. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity to prevent timber warping or veneer lifting.
