Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian tilt top tables originated in 18th-century England, constructed with a catch mechanism that allows the top to swivel vertically against the pedestal. This space-saving functional design permitted the piece to be stored against a perimeter wall when tea service or social gatherings concluded.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised English oak, mahogany, or walnut, securing the central pillar to three hand-carved legs via a timber or iron bearer block. The column often features ring-turned or baluster moulding, while the top rests on a block mechanism held by a metal snap latch.

Authentic 18th-century examples display hand-cut catch mechanisms, early iron screws, and hand-planed timber undersides. Natural timber shrinkage over centuries often causes circular tops to become slightly oval, accompanied by uneven patination and hand-carved joinery markings.

Position the table beside a modern armchair or within an unused alcove to serve as a functional accent piece. Keeping the top tilted vertically against a wall creates a structural focal point that highlights the grain and historic surface patination.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood fibres. Avoid placing the table near direct heat sources or damp environments to prevent timber warping and finish degradation.
