We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nautical motifs, including yachts and anchors, became widely popular in costume and fine jewellery during the 1930s and 1940s, reflecting maritime themes. Craftspeople frequently used sterling silver gilt and paste accents to create detailed figural pins.

These pieces were primarily manufactured from sterling silver coated with a layer of gold, known as silver gilt or vermeil. They were commonly set with faceted glass rhinestones or paste stones to emulate diamonds and coloured gemstones.

Authentic items typically feature silver purity stamps such as Sterling or 925 alongside rollover safety clasps. The reverse side generally exhibits open-backed stone settings and visible gilding wear consistent with age.

Vintage brooches can be displayed inside glass shadow boxes, pinned onto velvet-lined wall mounts, or arranged on decorative dressing table trays to showcase historic metalwork.

Wipe gently with a soft, dry lint-free cloth, avoiding liquid chemicals or immersion in water, which can damage silver gilt and loosen foil-backed stones. Store the piece in a dry environment inside a soft fabric pouch.
