Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian Windsor chair is a form of wooden seating constructed with a solid timber seat into which both the turned legs and back spindles are secured using round tenons. Produced during the early twentieth century, these chairs refined Victorian construction techniques while maintaining traditional vernacular fan-back and stick-back forms.

Traditional English Windsor chairs were typically constructed using a combination of regional hardwoods. Dense woods like elm were chosen for the contoured saddle seats due to resistance to splitting, while flexible woods such as ash or beech were utilized for the bent steam-formed bows, spindles, and turned legs.

Authentic period chairs feature construction indicators such as wedged tenon joints visible through the seat or frame, subtle asymmetrical hand-tooling marks, and natural patination around areas of high contact. The underside of the seats often shows distinct saw marks from original hand cutting.

Windsor chairs complement modern settings when paired with modern solid oak tables or contemporary kitchen islands to create a balanced, mixed-era aesthetic. Their architectural spindle backs allow light to pass through, making them suitable for smaller dining areas without visually overcrowding the space.

Maintain timber chairs by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the wood finish. Keep items away from direct heat sources and high humidity variations to prevent timber shrinkage or joint loosening.
