A very attractive early 19th-century Gothic Revival oak table of elegant proportions, dating to around 1830. The table has been sympathetically bleached, revealing the beautiful grain and patination of the timber while retaining the character expected of a piece of this age.

The rectangular top, with softly rounded corners and moulded edge, sits above a simple frieze incorporating shallow drawer fronts to one side. The table is raised on four finely shaped legs featuring carved Gothic detailing, with faceted shafts and stylised carved elements terminating in distinctive block feet.

The restrained yet architectural form reflects the influence of the Gothic Revival movement that gained popularity in the early decades of the 19th century. Pieces of this type were often used as library or refectory tables and today adapt perfectly as a console, writing table, or hall table.

The bleached finish gives the table a light contemporary appearance while highlighting the quality of the oak and the crispness of the carving.
