A spectacular antique Japanese bronze okimono, depicting a dramatic scene of two tigers attacking an elephant, signed Genryusai Seiya Saku and dating to the early 20th century, Showa period. This masterfully executed piece demonstrates the sublime aesthetics and technical skill of Japanese bronze artistry.
 
The composition is anatomically precise and dynamic, capturing the ferocious struggle between the elephant and the tigers. The elephant’s head is exquisitely modelled, trunk raised and jaws agape, with bone tusks poised to strike (these may have been replaced at some point), while one tiger grips its back in a tense, lifelike struggle. Its hide is realistically textured, with a glossy finish on the trunk and ears contrasting with the rough skin.
