Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

In nineteenth-century interiors, centre tables served as pivotal architectural and social anchors in drawing rooms and halls. Designed to be viewed from all angles, they showcased advanced cabinetmaking skills through elaborate timber veneers, marquetry inlay, and carved support structures.

These tables were typically constructed with a solid hardwood core topped with thin slices of highly figured burr walnut veneer. Intricate floral or arabesque marquetry inlays often incorporated lighter timbers like boxwood, supported by solid walnut carved legs and brass castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut marquetry inlays, natural age-related patination, and original brass castors under the feet. Look for traditional joinery underneath the tabletop frame and the distinct, irregular swirling patterns characteristic of genuine burr walnut veneer.

A Victorian centre table functions well in a spacious foyer, an open-plan living area, or a home library. Pairing the rich timber grain with modern lighting or contemporary artwork creates an engaging contrast between historical craftsmanship and current design trends.

Maintain a stable indoor humidity level to prevent the wood veneer from lifting or cracking, and position the table away from direct sunlight or strong heat sources. Clean the surface with a soft, dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to protect the timber finish.
