A very rare and petite étagère in great condition
This is an original 19th-century French tabletop étagère from the Napoleon III period (circa 1870).
These inlays are highly detailed, utilizing various fruitwoods to create vibrant, high-contrast bouquets typical of fine cabinetwork from this era.
The internal construction confirms the high quality of the piece, with drawers featuring finely hand-cut dovetails and mahogany linings. The frame is dressed in hand-chased ormolu (gilt-bronze) mounts that follow the curves of the tiers, finished with a delicate, pierced brass gallery rail. The backboard is fully finished with matching marquetry, and the unit sits on its original solid rosewood bun feet.
The étagère has benefited from a previous restoration and has been recently checked over and waxed. The marquetry is stable, the bronze has a clean, muted luster, and the rosewood grain shows excellent clarity. It is a well-preserved, bench-made example ready for display.
Please note this item is in beautiful condition for its age as shown in the photographs below however being an antique there may be minor repairs and imperfections here and there. However, we feel that these points are which adds charm and character to a piece.
