Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver mesh purses became prominent accessories during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, combining industrial machine-woven or hand-linked chainmail with decorative metalwork. The integration of guilloche enamelling on the frames emerged around 1900, influenced by European decorative art trends.

These purses feature individually linked metallic rings forming a flexible chainmail pouch, attached to a rigid silver top frame. The frames were often finished with guilloche enamelling, a technique where precise geometric patterns are engraved into the metal base before translucent enamel is applied and fired.

Authentic period pieces feature hallmarks or purity stamps on the interior frame, clasp, or handle. The mesh links should show uniform age-appropriate wear, while genuine guilloche enamel displays engine-turned geometric engraving beneath smooth, unchipped glass enamel.

Small antique metalwork pieces are frequently displayed inside glass shadow boxes, framed on velvet backings, or presented atop decorative trays on dressing tables to highlight their intricate detail.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid immersion in water or chemical silver dips, as liquids can damage or loosen enamel insets. Use specialised silver polishing cloths carefully around metal links, keeping chemical compounds away from enamel surfaces.
