Description

A Nice Antique Georgian Sheffield Plated Set comprising a two-handled sugar bowl and a cream jug, both dating to circa 1820. These pieces are a classic example of early English Regency silverware, when the artistry of Sheffield plate was at its height.

Each piece is formed in copper and fused with silver using the original Sheffield plate technique, a painstaking process that predates electroplating. The result is a warm, characterful silver surface that acquires a rich patina over time - here, complemented by subtle glimpses of the copper beneath, a hallmark of genuine age and authenticity.

The rims are adorned with a deeply cast gadrooned border, scrolling in bold curves reminiscent of late 18th-century neoclassical design. Both the acanthus leaf-capped handles and the ornate cast feet reflect the skilled silversmithing typical of early 19th-century English workmanship.

Inside, both the bowl and jug retain their original gilt-washed interiors, protecting the contents from tarnish while adding a luxurious, golden tone.
