Pair of Signed 1930s French Opalescent Glass Bowls – G Vallon – Vintage Cherries Design
A rare and beautiful pair of signed French opalescent glass bowls, created in the 1930s, attributed to G Vallon, likely produced at Choisy-le-Roi near Paris. Crafted in amber opalescent glass, these bowls are reminiscent of Lalique and Sabino decorative pieces of the era.
During manufacture, the glass cooled at varying rates, producing natural crystallisation and the characteristic milky opalescence. The warm amber tone is likely due to arsenic in the raw materials, giving the glass a dynamic colour and reflectivity that changes with the light, a feature rarely seen in modern glass.
Each bowl features G Vallon’s signature cherries design, the only motif associated with this maker. Both are signed “G Vallon – Made in France”, enhancing their authenticity and collector appeal. Many glassmakers of this period disappeared during the Second World War, making pieces like these highly collectible.
