Antique French Gilt Brass & Blue Enamel Box – Decorative Trinket / Humidor – Late 19th Century
A beautiful and highly decorative antique French gilt brass box, dating to the late 19th century, featuring striking cobalt blue enamel decoration and fine relief detailing.
This elegant piece was most likely originally intended as a small humidor for cigars or cigarettes, as the interior is lined in wood. It would also make a wonderful trinket box, jewellery box, or decorative dresser box.
The lid is richly decorated with a raised oval cartouche depicting a charming village scene with figures and houses, framed by superb cobalt blue enamel panels. The sides of the box are beautifully embossed with decorative festoons and classical ornamentation, typical of fine French decorative metalwork of the period.
A small curved handle sits at the centre of the lid, with a hinged opening, and the piece is clearly marked “FRANCE” beneath the handle. The interior retains its warm brown wooden
... lining to both the lid and base, adding to its original character.

Condition
Presented in excellent antique condition. The interior wood lining is clean and the box does not retain any tobacco odour. It appears to have been very lightly used or possibly never used. Please refer to the photographs for confirmation.
