Elmgarden has dated these Carved Cigar Store Statues to the 1890s.
This is a rare find, an American Indian Chief and his Princess.
The painted finish is over gesso and the pair are in very nice condition with a little wear to the finish, the princess has very finely carved fingers to her left hand but unfortunately the thumb of her right hand has been broken off
These colourful statues date from around 1900 and they would have stood outside a cigar store
The Chief is 58” tall, 20” wide and 11” deep
