Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Dining chairs from this era typically feature dense, solid mahogany timber with curved crest rails, turned or sabre legs, and padded seats. Design movements of the 19th century, such as William IV and Victorian, emphasised proportion, timber grain, and sturdy joinery.

High-grade Cuban or West Indian mahogany was preferred for frames due to its stability and deep color. Seat padding commonly utilised natural materials such as horsehair and jute webbing, upholstered in leather or woven wool fabrics.

Authentic period pieces show evidence of hand-cut joinery, hand-carved details, and subtle irregularities in turned elements. The mahogany timber exhibits a deep patina and substantial weight, while the underside of the frames often shows natural timber ageing and period tool marks.

Balance dark mahogany seating by pairing it with a contemporary light wood or stone dining table. Placing traditional leather chairs in minimalist spaces creates architectural contrast and warmth without overwhelming the room.

Clean wood surfaces with a soft dry cloth and apply natural beeswax annually to preserve the polish. Maintain leather upholstery using specialised leather balm to prevent drying and cracking, keeping the seating positioned away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
