Dutch Delftware is a tin-glazed earthenware produced in the Netherlands from the sixteenth century onwards, recognised for hand-painted blue and white designs inspired by Asian porcelain and native Dutch scenery.

Inkstands from this period were composed of white-firing clay bodies coated in an opaque lead-tin oxide glaze and decorated using cobalt blue metal oxide pigments prior to kiln firing.

Authentic period pieces exhibit freehand brushwork rather than transfer prints, minor surface crazing within the tin glaze, unglazed wearing on base rims, and factory maker marks painted under glaze.

Position the inkstand on a writing desk, mantelpiece, or bookshelf alongside leather books and metallic desk accessories to create an understated focal point within a home office or library.
