Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian novelty egg scent bottles were small containers produced during the late nineteenth century, designed to hold liquid perfume. Made popular by makers such as James Macintyre and Co, these items mimicked natural wild bird eggs with painted ceramic bodies and silver caps.

These scent bottles typically feature glazed earthenware or porcelain bodies styled to resemble eggs, paired with sterling silver mounts and screw caps. The silver neck collars were fitted to ceramic bases using threaded metal or cork inserts.

Authentic pieces feature British silver hallmarks stamped into the cap or collar, detailing the assay office, maker mark, and date letter. Additionally, genuine porcelain egg bases exhibit hand-applied speckled glazes and distinct maker stamps on the base.

Small decorative items can be arranged atop a bedroom dressing table, displayed alongside glass accessories in a curio cabinet, or placed on a vanity tray to add historical interest to modern dressing spaces.

Clean the ceramic body gently with a dry or slightly dampened microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals that could damage the glaze. Use a silver polishing cloth specifically on the metal cap to remove tarnish without disturbing silver hallmarks.
