Antique Sterling Silver Curb Link Albert Watch Chain Necklace T-bar Dog Clips | 16.25"

1900 - 1920
Description

This Albert Chain features chunky curb links, a removable sliding T-bar, and a double-dog clip fastener. It measures a wearable length of 16.25" and is modelled in sterling silver.

This chain is hallmarked with the Lion mark on every link, and it weighs an impressive 70 grams.

An Albert chain is a decorative chain initially used to attach a pocket watch to the wearer's clothing. The chain was named after Prince Albert, who was said to have been fond of wearing watch chains. The Dog clip would have been used to attach a pocket watch or fob, and the T-Bar would go through the buttonhole of a waistcoat to secure it in place.

Today, these are worn as necklaces, and the clips can be used to hang pendants or charms.

This is a quality example of an Albert chain, which would make a great addition to any collection.

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Albert watch chain is a historic accessory designed to attach a pocket watch to a gentlemans waistcoat, named after Prince Albert who popularized the style in the 19th century.

Traditional Albert chains were primarily constructed from solid sterling silver, gold, or rolled gold, often featuring hallmarked curb links, T-bars, and swivel dog clip fasteners.

Authentic British silver Albert chains typically feature silver assay hallmarks stamped on individual links, the T-bar, and the dog clips to verify purity and date of manufacture.

In modern styling, antique Albert chains are frequently worn as necklaces or chokers, layered with other chains, or used to suspend charms and pendants from the T-bar or dog clips.

Clean silver chains gently using a soft polishing cloth specifically designed for precious metals, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip away natural historical patina in the link crevices.
