We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Provincial low tables from the 18th century were typically crafted by regional cabinetmakers using locally sourced hardwoods such as walnut or oak. They combine practical utility with subtle decorative elements, including shaped aprons, carved drawer fronts, and sturdy pegged joinery.

These tables were primarily constructed using solid walnut, fruitwood, or oak, secured with hand-cut wooden pegs and mortise-and-tenon joints. Hardware typically consisted of cast brass or hand-forged iron handles and drawer pulls.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of natural timber shrinkage, hand-planed surfaces, irregular peg placement, and genuine oxidisation around iron or brass fittings. Original drawers often show hand-dovetailed joints and uneven saw marks consistent with historical tool usage.

A substantial antique walnut table serves as a grounded centrepiece when paired with modern upholstered seating and neutral textiles. Combining rich timber patination with clean-lined architectural elements creates a balanced, layered interior aesthetic.

Regular dusting with a soft dry cloth and an occasional application of high-quality clear beeswax will nourish the timber and protect its natural patination. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and excessive humidity to prevent wood movement and splitting.
