A separate internal liner confirms its function and quality manufacture.
Underglaze blue decoration of cloud scrolls and flowing ornament contrasts with the white sculptural dragon coiling around the stem. The square base, raised on four curved feet and painted in blue and white, gives the piece architectural presence. The modelling of the dragon remains sharp and lively. A refined, intellectually balanced composition.
Established in the mid-17th century in Mikawachi, the Hirado kilns initially supplied feudal patrons in what was almost a closed court production. This heritage explains their disciplined aesthetic and technical mastery, long associated with the highest level of Japanese porcelain.

Condition:
Excellent condition. No visible damage or restoration. The reticulation is intact throughout. The dragon retains its finest details in full preservation.
The visible joint between the upper body and the stem is not damage but a normal manufacturing feature, as these elements were made separately and joined before firing. Similar joints can be seen on comparable examples.
Small superficial firing marks on the ribbed section of the stem are not cracks. Under UV light they do not extend into the porcelain and are consistent with minor kiln effects from the firing process.
