Small Iron-back Buttoned Armchair – Country House Chair C.1880

A charming late Victorian iron-back armchair, featuring a beautifully shaped deep buttoned backrest supported by an internal iron frame, a construction method often used in high-quality upholstered chairs of the late 19th century to give additional strength and maintain the elegant curved form.

The chair has a sprung seat and sweeping arms, creating a comfortable and inviting occasional chair ideal for a living room, bedroom, or study. The classic button-back upholstery adds texture and character, while the curved silhouette gives the piece an elegant appearance.

The chair stands on turned wood front legs, with all four legs retaining the original ceramic castors, allowing it to be easily moved.

The current upholstery is an attractive soft blue fabric with a subtle repeating motif (Linwood 'Bryher'), which compliments the design and gives the chair a light decorative feel.
