18th Century French Provincial Oak Sacristy Cabinet – Low Buffet For Kitchen, Hallway Or Living Dining Room

This beautiful 18th Century French Provincial oak cabinet came from a large villa just outside Paris, where time seemed to have stood still. It had been the home of one of the last Parisian fine art printers printers, typographers and woodcut pressmen. Located in the chequerboard floored free standing kitchen, it would be equally at home in a dining or living room or a large hallway.
 
Of rare quality, it likely was built to serve as a sacristy or vestry cupboard to house liturgical vestments, which explains its impressive scale and the thickness of the solid oak used throughout. The doors retain their original hand-forged iron hinges (fiches ą larder) and a functioning lock. The back is composed of heavy, irregular oak planks showing the original adze marks from the 18th-century carpenter. The frame is entirely joined with wooden pegs (chevilles), The oak possesses a deep, honey-toned patina that can only be achieved through centuries of wax and use.
