A superb and substantial mid-Victorian carbuncle garnet and diamond brooch, dating to the 1850s, crafted in rich 15ct gold and designed as a bold, sculptural flowerhead.
The brooch is centred with a bright old-cut diamond of approximately 0.35 carats, set within a raised star-shaped mount. Surrounding the centre are eight magnificent carbuncle garnets, each carved and highly polished, displaying exceptional depth of colour ranging from deep claret to glowing crimson in the light. Their domed, sculptural form gives the brooch remarkable presence and dimension.
Encircling the garnets is an ornate twisted rope-work gold border, adding texture and refinement, and demonstrating the high level of craftsmanship associated with the finest Victorian jewellery.
The reverse retains its original pin and safety catch fitting. The brooch remains in excellent antique condition and is ready to wear or add to a fine collection.
Carbuncle garnet brooches of this scale and quality are increas
...ingly sought after and were among the most luxurious jewels of the Victorian period.
