Gillers Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The female figure is decorated with a deep cobalt-blue skirt enriched with gilded floral motifs, a pink bodice with gilt accents and a gilt necklace, while the male figure is painted in harmonising polychrome enamels.

Both figures are seated on ornate rococo chairs supported by pierced scrolled bases with floral ornament and gilded highlights. The popularity of this composition resulted in repeated reissues in varied colourways during the late 18th and 19th centuries. The factory numbering remains preserved to the bases.
