We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Neoclassical mantel clocks emerged in the late eighteenth century, drawing visual inspiration from classical Greek and Roman art. They typically feature symmetrical structures, sculptural figures such as putti or mythological allegories, and architectural elements like fluted columns or drapery.

These clocks were commonly constructed using unglazed bisque porcelain, ormolu (gilt bronze), marble, and brass. The clock faces were predominantly made of enamelled copper set with painted Roman or Arabic numerals and fitted with hand-cut metal hands.

Authentic period examples often feature hand-engraved maker signatures on the movement or dial plate, along with cast brass gear trains and hand-finished porcelain detailing. Examining the underside reveals wear consistent with age, manual tool marks, and appropriate assembly hardware such as square nuts.

A classical porcelain clock is often positioned centrally on a fireplace mantelpiece, marble console, or sideboard to create a focal point. Pairing the light sculpture with modern minimalist artwork or clean-lined mirrors balances the classical ornamentation with contemporary aesthetics.

Bisque porcelain should be dusted regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush to remove surface debris without pushing dirt into the unglazed pores. Liquid cleaners should be avoided, and mechanical clockwork should be serviced exclusively by a professional horologist to ensure correct functioning.
