An Extremely Attractive And Very Good Quality Mid 18th Century Georgian Oak Dresser Base Sideboard, Retaining Good Rich Colour And Patina Throughout, Having Well Figured Rectangular Top Over Five Drawers, With Original Brass Swan Neck Handles, To Elegant Shaped Frieze, Raised On Square Upright Supports With Original Potboard Shelf Below And Square Block Feet.
This is a very attractive dresser base of good size and proportion, therefore perfect for a wide ranging variety of spaces around the home, due to its shallow depth amongst many of its other features. It is also of course very elegant and retains a superb colour and patina as a consequence of many years hard graft and use, combined with love and care.
It is also quite nice to note the original brass swan neck handles. Original handles are quite a rare feature on any 18th century dresser base, far more often than not they have been replaced.
Overall the condition is pretty good and as mentioned above despite being well use
...d over the years it has also been well loved, resulting in a real charm to it.
As the name suggests the original purpose of a potboard shelf was to store all manner of pots and pans. These pots and pans were often still wet, very heavy, or possibly still hot when placed back onto the storage shelf and this is the reason that we regularly find potboard shelves damaged beyond repair, or in rather ugly condition visually. No such issue with this particular piece however with it retaining a lovely original potboard shelf.
As with all items which we offer for sale this dresser base has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our trained antique furniture restorers, where it has recieved a natural wax polish to ensure it is ready for immediate placement within the home environment.
