Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sugar nips are scissor-action implements designed in the 18th century to break off and serve pieces from hard loaves of refined sugar. Popular during the Georgian era, they preceded the spring-action sugar tongs that became common in the 19th century.

Georgian sugar nips were primarily cast from sterling silver or silver plate, featuring central pivot rivets and shaped grip loops, often finished with shell-shaped or ringed terminal grips.

Authentic Georgian silver sugar nips typically bear hallmarks such as makers marks, a lion passant standard mark, and city marks stamped near the finger loops or central hinge, along with cast scroll arms.

These small silver items can be displayed as part of a curated tray setting on a sideboard, arranged inside a glass display cabinet, or utilised during formal tea services.

Clean silver sugar nips gently using a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver polish to remove oxidisation without wearing down hallmarks or subtle chased detailing. Store in an anti-tarnish fabric sleeve in a dry environment.
